New York, New York and San Francisco, California ( PressReleaseCollection ) May 12th 2009 -Dr. Heidi Horsley, Executive Director of the Open to Hope Foundation and Co-Host of the radio show Healing the Grieving Heart and Dr. Gloria Horsley, Founder and President of the Open to Hope Foundation and Host of the radio show Healing the Grieving Heart are excited to announce that Bonnie Carroll, one of Open to Hope’s contributing author’s and a past radio show guest is being currently featured in People Magazine.
Bonnie Carroll received the People Magazine "Heros Among Us" Award, which honors "ordinary people doing extraordinary things." She is the Founder and Executive Director of the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), the national Veterans Service Organization providing support and resources for all those affected by the death of a loved one serving in the armed forces. TAPS is the leading grief-support service for military families.
Ms. Carroll served in Baghdad, Iraq as the Deputy Senior Advisor for Programs in the Ministry of Communications. She founded TAPS following the death of her husband, Brigadier General Tom Carroll, in an Army C-12 plane crash in 1992. She is a trained Critical Incident Stress Debriefer, member of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies and Chairman of the Military Committee of the American Association for Death Education and Counseling. She has authored numerous articles on grief and trauma and appeared on CNN, FOX, NBC’s the Today Show and other programs speaking about military loss.

She has a private practice in Manhattan, NY specializing in grief and loss. She is also author of “Teen Grief Relief” and “Real Men Do Cry”. She holds graduate degrees from the University of San Francisco, Columbia University, and Loyola University.

Dr. Gloria C. Horsley, PHD, MFT, CNS, is a bereaved parent, and has worked in the field of family therapy for over twenty years. Dr. Gloria is Founder and President of the Open to Hope Foundation. She serves The Compassionate Friends (thecompassionatefriends.org) in a number of roles, including as a Board Director and frequently serves as a media spokesperson in her dual role as a bereaved parent and professional.
